Veggie Ranger visits Crabapple Lane Elementary in Peachtree City, GA!

Peachtree City, GA - (November 1, 2005) - Powell Smith, aka "Veggie Ranger" from Atlanta-based SouthernGrease.com, a learning website for renewable, vegetable-based fuels and vehicles, today visited Crabapple Lane Elementary School to teach 80 fourth graders about using vegetable oil as fuel in diesel engines.  Veggie Ranger had three diesel vehicles representing several decades of technology including a 1986 Ford Ranger Turbo diesel pickup running on Waste Vegetable Oil, an antique Mercedes and a computer-controlled Turbo Diesel Suburban.

"I am thrilled to plant a seed in the minds of our young people on how they can change habits and improve the environment" said Smith. "I hope that some of these children will grow up and make a difference in our environment and world by innovating in the biofuel industry."

Veggie Ranger displayed filtration systems, heat exchangers and demonstrated the technology from oil collection to dewatering/filtration to running it in his Ford Ranger pickup.  The children learned the "Three Get it's" of burning waste vegetable oil: "Get it Clean," "Get it Dry," and "Get it Hot."

Research has shown that vegetable-based fuels burned in diesel engines produce no sulfur and little or no carcinogens normally produced by diesel engines burning petroleum-based fuels.
