Veggie Ranger wins "Top 10 People's Choice" award at Atlanta Auto
Expo!
Cumming, GA - (July 30, 2005) -
Atlanta-based SouthernGrease.com, a learning website for renewable,
vegetable-based fuels and vehicles, today announced that it has
received the "Top 10 People's Choice" Award for its entry in the
Atlanta Auto Expo, a 1986 Ford Ranger Turbo diesel pickup running on
Waste Vegetable Oil.
"We are thrilled to receive an award at an auto show for our old
truck! The people have spoken. Vegetable oil as fuel is the way to
go." said Powell Smith, President of SouthernGrease.com. "Our
interest in renewable, vegetable fuels is based on our desire to
help foster cleaner energy sources that can be produced domestically
and to help reduce our dependence on Middle East oil." Smith also said.
He further elaborated stating that he would like to see energy
companies pursue more research in vegetable-based fuels used in
diesel engines.
"Burning vegetable-based fuels in diesel vehicles and machinery not
only helps reduce consumption of Middle East petroleum, but it is also
inexpensive and better for the environment." Smith told
us. Research has shown that vegetable-based fuels burned in diesel
engines produce no sulfur or carcinogens normally produced by diesel
engines burning petroleum-based fuels. It also reduces particulate
emissions by up to 80% compared to petroleum diesel.
