News from the Atlanta Biofuels Fair - Fernbank Science Center - 3/11/2006

The Veggie Ranger was on exhibit Saturday at the Atlanta Biofuels Fair at Fernbank Science Center in Atlanta, Georgia.  What a great gathering!  There were a dozen vehicles there running either Straight Vegetable Oil or Biodiesel.

The attendees were mostly folks very interested in learning more about biofuels.  Most had notebooks and pens and asked very directed questions.  I was encouraged to see this since it was clear that these were not random visitors that showed up at Fernbank and fournd the fair.  They came specifically for the fair hoping to learn more about biofuels!

The amazing thing about this event is that it was organized and put together by high school students participating in a Biofuels Workshop at Fernbank Science Center.  This was a multi-week workshop and culminated in this fair.  It was the best turnout of any biofuel event I have attended!

The most popular question I was asked involved understanding the difference between SVO-converted vehicles and Biodiesel-converted vehicles.  Most people assumed that you have to convert the car to run on Biodiesel.  Most people left with a clearer understanding of the ease of running a diesel engine on biodiesel.

All in all, this was a great biofuels fair with a great turnout of all sorts of folks from all walks of life.  Everyone was very interested and asked great questions.  Most attendees had notebooks and pens for taking notes while asking questions.

My hats off to the high schoolers that organized this show and put on a great biofuel fair for Fernbank Science Center!  I can't wait until next year...
